| Can't load either version of COD4 ( Regular or 1.7 ). I double click the icon, see the main loading screen pic then I get the IW3MP.exe has stopped working message. That's all I have to go on. Thinking I lost a boot up file but just a guess. Can I re-install from the CD without it overwriting my progress file? | |

| Have you messed with your audio settings at all? That can cause that error. If you change your playback device. I have had that happen. To re install you need to back up your players folder.

| It was the Mic. Had to remove it from the kb and plug it directly into the back of the PC
Don't know why but I seem to have lost my profile from the game crashing so much. Unless I can find an old file, I am starting over ... again. Wonder if I can copy and paste from the V1.7 ... its doing great

| That's good you figured it out. Cod4 is weird with audio. You should be able to copy your players folder from your 1.7 install if it uses the same CD key. | |

| Took me a while but I am back to normal once again. Really have NO CLUE what happened but after I got the Mic Issue resolved, I logged onto the game and was at level 1. Putzed and putzed and putzed some more and FINALLY found that I could play with my normal level 55 as long as I was playing with the CD inserted into the drive and I started the game by using the disc. If I double clicked on the icon, level 1. I got frustrated and was about to reload the game and deleted the icon off my desktop ... then saw another off to the left and down.
It was my Original shortcut to the game and worked perfectly. Where the new icon came from ... dunno but glad it is gone and I can once again play at level 55.

| Right click the one that works and click open file location. When the file browser opens you will see a cod4 Icon right click that and click create shortcut on desktop. Then you will only need to click the shortcut on desktop to get your old profile back. | |
